Alta Tree Planting Day

Two volunteers plant a small sapling in a grassy field

Join us on September 23rd at 8:00am for Alta’s busiest event of the season as we spend a burly day on the mountain planting up to 1,000 and tree saplings. For this event, please register on the Alta website (link at the bottom of this page).

We will be meeting at Alta Town Park. To get there, park at the Wildcat parking lot and walk east along the gravel road past the Goldminer’s Daughter (40°35'20.38"N, 111°38'8.88"W).

We'll start this event with a brief safety talk and planting demonstration, then we'll split into groups and hike to different locations to plant. After the planting, we'll all return to the check-in site for a free lunch.

The following is a short agenda for the event:

8:00am – Meet at the Alta Town Park. A light breakfast, coffee, and tea will be served.

8:30am – We will go over the day’s process and split into groups based on easy, medium, and hard hikes to the different planting zones.

1:00pm - End of planting, lunch will be served at the Town Park.

Please come prepared with water, comfortable, close-toed shoes, sunscreen, and clothes appropriate for the weather. We recommend a few light layers, as it can be chilly in the morning, followed by sunshine. We also recommend a hat as the sun is strong at this elevation.

*Please note, we will be hiking to the location on the mountain. Expect a hike of about ¾ of a mile with moderate uphill elevation gain. We will be going slowly, but it is good to keep in mind you will be hiking at an elevation of about 8,500-9,000ft.

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL. REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.
