TreeUtah’s Statewide Community Tree Planting program works to build public awareness and understanding of the needs and values of healthy community forests. We offer our services to individuals and communities throughout the State of Utah to help facilitate tree plantings in their cities and towns. In the Salt Lake Metropolitan Area, our MetroGreening initiative helps build partnerships among local communities, government programs and private enterprises to educate, collect data and plant trees.
In partnership with Salt Lake County, TreeUtah runs a number of programs at the 73-acre Redwood Natural Area along the Jordan River (near 3100 South and Redwood Road in West Valley). These include programs for adults, families and children. We have created the Trees for Eagles Wildlife Spiral and Grove, an unique labyrinth planting of native trees and shrubs that we use to teach people about the use of native trees and shrubs by Native Americans as well as their value for birds and other wildlife. Last year, we hosted our first summer day camp for children ages 8-11 that is run out of the Redwood Recreation Center and uses the Redwood Natural Area on the Jordan River as a unique outdoor classroom. We also give semi-monthly natural history walks at the Redwood site. This year, TreeUtah will start a Junior Naturalist Program as part of these programs.
