TreeUtah Volunteer Coordinator (part-time, with possibility of full-time with additional duties)

The purpose of this position is to help plan, organize and manage volunteer tree events for TreeUtah. This role is responsible for making sure all volunteers have a great experience by letting people know what to expect in advance, making them feel supported during events, and evaluating results. Work hours vary. There is a possibility of this becoming a full-time job for the right person who is also interested in taking on marketing and education duties.

Duties:

  • Promote, coordinate and manage quality tree plantings and educational events
  • Communicate regularly with event partners and volunteers
  • Maintain detailed records for grants and reporting purposes
  • Recruit and train volunteers and interns
  • Provide content for social media, emails, posters, brochures, and website

Required Skills:

  • Enthusiastic self-starter who likes having an independent role as part of a team. Must be able to comfortably work alone at times, and also work with large groups at events.
  • Experience with event planning, managing volunteers, and project management
  • Strong public speaking and written communication skills
  • Ability to connect with all ages and ability levels
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and special event hours as needed
  • Strong computer skills, plus willingness to learn more. Familiarity with Microsoft Office required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, and undertake moderately strenuous physical activities such as high alpine hikes.
  • Must have valid Utah Driver’s License and be willing and able to drive company truck.
  • Knowledgeable in the identification, biology, and care of trees

20 hours/week, $12 – $15 per hour to start, DOE. Some evenings, weekends and special event hours.

TreeUtah Marketing and Communications Coordinator (part-time, with possibility of full-time)

The purpose of this position is to communicate and promote tree planting events to the community. Help tell the story of TreeUtah to all stakeholder groups. Assist in marketing, organizing, and attending events. Works closely with the TreeUtah Volunteer Coordinator, Executive Director, and Planting Coordinator to get consistent messaging to the community.

Work hours vary depending on event schedule, with more hours during April and May.

Duties include:

  • Write professional email, blog and social media posts, calendar listings, invitations, program reports, press releases, and brochures
  • Facilitate effective and consistent communication with staff, volunteers, partner organizations, and the public
  • Represent TreeUtah in the public, making sure we always have an organized and educational experience for anyone who interacts with us.

Required Skills:

  • Enthusiastic self-starter who loves to take a project and run with it
  • Strong public speaking and written communication skills
  • Ability to connect with all ages and ability levels – in person and through writing
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and special event hours as needed for events (especially April, May, September, and October)

Desired Skills:

  • Interested in the identification, biology, and care of trees
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, CRM/database, and WordPress

15-20 hours/week, $12 – $15 per hour to start, DOE.

Internships:

EcoGarden Intern: Research, design and implement community volunteer events at TreeUtah’s EcoGarden, a permaculture orchard next to the Day-Riverside Library in Rose Park. TreeUtah staff will offer support, information resources, office space, tools, supplies, and event promotion. The intern will work independently in researching and maintaining the EcoGarden.

Videographer Internship:

TreeUtah has been improving the lives of Utahns for 3 decades. Help us tell our story through the art of videography.  Give trees a voice and document how tree-planting can transform communities. Tell the story of a single tree and help others experience or visualize the life of the earth’s most ancient living things.  There are so many Tree Stories to tell. Interns must have access to their own camera and editing equipment. Shooting will occur on some Saturdays.
